It was always tough for students and parents to get used to the high classroom expectations I had in place. A learning setting with routine and boundaries was new to them. Within a week, however, there was a positive change in everyone. Parents even noticed the child was more responsible at home, eager to come to school to learn something new. I felt successful the day I thought a new student was entering my class, a seventh grader. Hours later, I found out he was ditching his own classroom to come to mine.
People do love discipline; they do not always understand this, as it is a learned behavior. Once it is mastered, the excitement of discovery begins. Holding one another, discipline and knowledge remain forever friends.
